As Lisa discovered, Stoney talks to everybody and likes to take people for a ride on his Harley Davidson. He tells this story to everyone he meets, it's nothing new to Broken Hill, but it may be new to you.
"Everybody loves a Harley Davidson!"
In her travels Lisa
looks for friendship where she finds it, spending many nights alone on the
highways or in her caravan at night with only herself to talk to. It is important
for Lisa to make a friend in town.
A unique fellow found Lisa in Wentworth on her last tour. She was unhooking
her caravan in the caravan park. "Would you like a hand? " he asked?
Lisa answered, "No! But you can watch me if you like!" (Lisa likes
doing things herself. )

About five years ago, Stoney said to his wife, "I've always wanted a Harley Davidson! " Well Stoney's got a supportive wife and companion, and her answer was "go for it", so he had the plan and was taking action. Stoney planned to buy his Harley around November because he had organised his money this way. That was a few months away. Meanwhile, there was a competition being run for charity, and the prize was a Harley Davidson. Stoney was telling his mate about it, and his mate said "buy a ticket for me". Stoney said "I dunno mate, I'd never forgive you if you won it!". But he bought his mate a ticket against his own better judgement. What happened was this. Stoney went to buy two tickets. He bought the next one in the book for himself, and he asked the lady to skip one, and he would buy that one for his mate. He was given the two tickets. A couple of weeks later Stoney's mate received a ticket in the mail. That was a third ticket. Stoney rang up to tell the lady what had happened. She had given Stoney a ticket and then sent one to his mate in the mail as well. So Stoney said "alright, I'll keep the extra ticket and give you the money for it". Well what do you know, that was the very ticket that won the competition! So Stoney didn't have to save up to buy his Harley Davidson after all!
Stoney testifies like this, he says "the good Lord wanted me to have that bike, because I have always been good and generous to people and he knew what I wanted it for. So now I take every opportunity I can to give people pleasure with it. I've had a lady who's ninety five on the Harley! One woman bought pants, which she never wears, just so that she could have a ride on the Harley Davidson!"
Lisa says "It's the people you meet and connect with that make a town a pleasure or a displeasure to visit and remember". In Broken Hill it was Stoney and his wife Ellen. It's not always possible to make a friend in town. Lisa says every town needs someone like Stoney, friendly and wanting to share. So in Broken Hill Stoney took Lisa on a ride on his Harley Davidson.
Broken Hill was terrific for being friendly and helpful, and Lisa also remembers Mick and his wife for his assistance and company in town.
